Situated in the heart of Lalitpur, Pinnacle is a global standard college dedicated to its motto “Discipline & Excellence”. As per the demand of parents, guardians, students and national scientific arena, Pinnacle launched B.Sc Microbiology program affiliated to Tribhuvan University in 2007 A.D. for the first time in Lalitpur district. Since then the college has been providing research based quality education with coordinated efforts of experts and scholars in the field of microbiology.
B.Sc Microbiology of T.U. is interdisciplinary four years program that includes the study of biology of microorganisms and equip the students with both theoretical and practical knowledge of applications of microorganisms. The course is designed to produce biological scientists who can utilize the knowledge in various fields including pharmaceutics, medical, environment, agriculture, food, industries, public health, molecular biology and genetics, and many more.
Microbiology is a research oriented subject and recent pandemic of COVID-19 has highlighted more on its scopes and applications. Microbiology is advancing with promised scopes and brighter future. The life of microscopic organisms is primitive one and exist in nature more in number than any other forms of life to be known till date. They represent the bulk of knowledge to study life processes and other advancement in other organisms. Since microorganisms are ubiquitous in nature, their interactions in ecosystem affect life on the earth directly or indirectly. Microbes are not only harmful but advantageous too. Recent researches have been directed towards biodegradation of plastics, oil and other xenobiotic substances and treatment of genetic diseases using molecular techniques that involve microorganisms, and antibiotic resistance along with vaccine production.
To make our students familiar with recent advancements in microbiology, in addition to regular laboratory works, we have arranged guest lectures, journal club and seminar, and filed, laboratory and industrial visit. We have also arranged the training program in polymerase chain reaction (PCR) which is one of the gold standard tools for infectious disease diagnosis and is used in microbial researches most often. Students are motivated to get involved in research based activities. We would like to assure our research oriented educational activities help the students be competent in this modern era of science and technology.
